DAY 6                 the sixth day  was focused on study of materials, i surfed the net to find out what exactly is the FUTURE MATERIAL ........... so i came across many new stuff that seems like fiction but are already out in the market ...........                   the first thing i looked for was FRP, i always assumed it to be a efficient material, but the study in detail changed my perspective, its non recyclable, it generates toxic waste in manufacturing and its not feasible to recycle or reuse it ....    the only good factor is it has beautiful finish and is long lasting.                  the other futuristic materials i came across were, translucent concrete paper honey comb paper honey comb sofa stone paper....... water expanding plastics compostable stretch fabric metal foam ...

DAY 5             day 5 was mostly engaged in finding case studies on cafeteria, i came across some good designs of semi open cafeterias, but again was confused if they are relevant or not, because the project brief says we have a design a space with a future vision,  2020.             i came across  a design by FL wright, river view spring green restaurant, its a beautiful river side cafe  with a interesting ceiling design. the furniture is quite interesting too. River view spring green restaurant, ceiling and layout  furniture of cafe with wooden chairs bearing castor wheels                       some others design i refereed to were similar, it will be a tough task to actually find the right kind of cafe for a design problem that says it has to be futuristic.                  ...

DAY 4                 the fourth day was all about case studies at various places in Ahmedabad, me somil and anurag started off with case study in falafel café near hutheesing art gallery followed by study at chauraha café near kanoria art gallery. the reasons for choosing these spaces was, they cater to similar crowd as nid, students(cept), artists, faculties and random visitors + they are semi open or open spaces.                  we sat at each place for an hour or so, clicked some photographs, made some observations on how and what measures they have taken to deal with the issues that are similar to what we have here in bmw canteen at nid. like sun, heat, rain, shade etc.                   we also visited the zen cafe but it was closed at ...

Day 3   the third day  begun with the discussion on the approach to the design solution for the space planning.   the importance of case studies both from literature and via visiting in person. We were asked to refer existing furniture designs from featherlite , godrej , space wood herman miller. DP Day 2          the second day of design project started off with the understanding of our own body dimensions and how that can be used to understand and quickly estimate the size of a furniture or a object or even a space. the discussion with pravin sir went  on towards direction of what space we would like to design for the DP.          the initial work was decided to be done in groups. the work space was finalised to be the bmw canteen at NID campus. the insights from pravin sir go towards keeping a very innovative approach towards the design solution both in terms of space and final furniture. today's task was to observe, measure and understand the needs and problem areas of the space and to document them to achieve a better understanding of the space and keep a very defined and clear approach to the design solutions.
